What is
knowledge? According to my favourite dictionary, Merriam-Webstar Dictionary,
Knowledge can be defined as a body of facts learnt by study or experience.
Where can we obtain knowledge? We obtain knowledge in our everyday living, the
sun sets, we get ourselves ready for the normal day’s activities, hoping for
the best. Our knowledge acquisition starts as at the sun set, every hour,
minutes, seconds, we obtain knowledge. There has been no day we never gain
anything unless we keep sleeping, once you open your eyes to see a bright new
day you have given room for new knowledge/experiences.
Where
can we obtain knowledge? Well, source of knowledge has no limit, it could be
obtained through formal education. We go to school during school hours, we
learn new things and make use of the application in our daily living. It can be
obtained in our work places, from co-workers or through our own past mistakes
in the company. It can be achieved through religious activities in our
Masjid(Mosque), Churches etc.
According
to the definition of knowledge, it can be achieved or obtained from anybody
regardless of his or her status in as much it is a genuine knowledge. For
example, a successful man may never have any formal education privilege but may
be engaging himself in a hard labour such as farming just as a means of living
and you, a student, aspiring to be a successful agriculturist in the future
does not know what to do about it, it is really disturbing your mind on how you
will start, you have the knowledge, you studies all night, you have made some
sacrifice and you have done some other things but you are still thinking of how
you can do it all alone then an advert came up on a broadcasting channel on
your television about the successful agriculturist, then you set your mind to
go wherever this man is residing to round up your years of virtual travail and
apply what you have studied for years. You are now with the man, admiring him
more of a mentor, you go through some talks and exercises with him. “Oh! This
man must have graduated from a prestigious university” you think, but later on
you get to learn that he doesn’t went through any formal education, you get
startled, wondering how knowledgeable he is than you do. This is so because
those big things you are studying in the room, going to classes and libraries,
seminars and webinars, he is busy practising it every day in a very harsh condition;
long term perseverance, relentless efforts without breaking down. Though he is an
illiterate but you should consider him as a professional in the field.
What I
am really implying is that sources of knowledge has no limit, you can gain it
from a girl, boy, a man, woman, an elder, your neighbour, a younger brother or
sister, an elder brother or sister. You can even gain knowledge from your
enemy, their secret weapon is a reason you should think of good tactics to win
the battle.
Inability
or unwillingness to strive for knowledge is being an ignorant because knowledge
is free. Some people will say “why should I learn from a little boy whose birth
was at my presence”, “see how rough he works, are you sure he owns the car?”, “I
cannot learn algebra from that girl, she is a new comer”. My guy, stop that nonsense, stop being a
noob, it does not matter where you learn from, just make sure the source of the
knowledge is reliable, modest and honest.
“If I
can obtain this sum of money, I will go to school no more”. My man! Who is
deceiving you!? I guess you know Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Bill Gates, do
you think they dropped out of school on purpose!? Are they rich before they
dropped out!? That is where you are getting it wrong. My friend, don’t live for
money because it is so powerful that it can lead you astray. Zucks and Gates
had the perspective of their future so that is why they made the decision which
makes them be at their topmost spot till date. Nothing should stop you from
being a millionaire or a billionaire, a rich, the richest but never neglect the
most important source of knowledge, strive for knowledge, use that money to
gain more knowledge.
Do not
make your knowledge a sword against others but a pride to yourself and the
shield for others protection. Cheer up man, it does not matter whom you are or
where you are from, stop being a nincompoop. Strive for knowledge until your
last breath. GET MOTIVATED!
GET YOURSELF SOME KNOWLEDGE
